CRES
A HERBAL PARADISE
Cres is one of the largest Croatian islands, with length of 66 and width of 12 kilometers. Known far and wide for its diverse flora with no less than 1400 plant groups! The island is blessed with a mild Mediterranean climate, making it a perfect place for a summer vacation.
The cuisine of Cres is best known for localy grown foods, most importantly lamb specialities, dairy products, olive oil and wild asparagus. Every visitor should taste herb marinated lamb under the bell with potatoes.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Cres is ladden with interesting places, cute towns, beaches and restaurants worth a visit. Let us list some of the more interesting ones:
Cres - the largest town on the island. Here you will find public beaches, many
restaurants with seafood and continental cuisine delicacies, along with
charming narrow cobblestone streets and passageways, typical for island
town architecture.
Lubenice - If you feel prepared to drive on probably the narrowest two lane road in the world (don't worry, it is nowhere near as frightening as it may sound), at its end, on the hilltop, you will find a beautiful, minuscule town with a perfect wiew of the archipelago, along with a lonely, heavenly beach at its base, reachable by foot. Although the climb back up is a bit strenuous, believe us, it is worth the effort.
Bay of Meli - Probably the most beautiful beach on the island, also takes a bit of effort to reach. If you start by automobile in the direction of Belej, just opposite of Ustrine you will reach a signpost for "Uvala Meli" directing you to turn right onto a dirt road. About ten minutes on it takes you to a village of Srem with a large parking lot. From there you should continue on foot,
following the signposts to the coast.
About 20 minutes walk takes you to the lovely sandy beach. With a bit of luck, there you will be welcomed by a kind gentleman selling local herb brandy and cold beer. Don’t forget to take a lot of sunscreen and a parasol to the beach, the bay is very sunny.
Beli - The home of the largest Griffon Vulture reservation in the region.
If you ever wanted to see those magnificent birds up close, this is the perfect opportunity.
FINE DINING
The island cuisine, as previously noted, it best known for its cheeses, lamb, aromatic island herbs and seafood. In Osor you will find no less than four restaurants and a pizzeria, catering to all tastes, but for the true cuisine of Cres we suggest, if chance permits, a road trip to the town of Loznati, where, as many say, lamb dishes are driven to perfection.
For a seafood dinner, let us suggest a visit to one of the restaurants in the city of Mali Losinj, such as "Barakuda" on Priko street.
